Story:

For millennia, the planet Chrysalis was peaceful, and all organisms lived in harmony. One day, in the Spiracle of Thunder, King Temp received a vision— the greed and selfishness of man would lead to the world's destruction. To prevent this, the king decided to release a special hot and dense fog surrounding the castle grounds that causes sapiens (human beings) to fall unconscious. Thus begins the conflict.

The sapien scientists gathered in Mars Town and decided that an army of protective suits was necessary. They initiated began Project Too Grand. The first working model, the MM-2000, was carefully tested on one individual, Niisen. Although the results were successful, the scientists felt the need to make a new model version that uses significantly less resources so that they can make a decently-sized group of armored soldiers. The next working model, the MC-21, was created. Though it had less resistance to heat and blunt force, it was still enough to protect the wearers from the fog effects. Testing did not seem necessary, so all 33 soldiers in the MC-21 suits were sent out to go see the king.

One week later, some returned with a message from King Temp: the six power plants providing electricity all throughout the land are to be destroyed, resetting civilization back to a time before technology. The soldiers went back into the fog before they could be told that destroying the power plants will devastate the land. With Niisen the only sapien left able to go outside safely, he set out to make things right. The question is... what will he do? It's a lot of pressure, but hey, he's an awesome guy in a suit! You know how the story goes— a kid hero with cool abilities goes on an epic adventure and beats the bad guy and saves the day. At least, that's how it should go, right?

Trivia:

This game was originally called "Christmas in July" back in 2015 and looked a lot weirder. It would have been a story about putting family first no matter the circumstances, but I didn't want to invalidate those who may have been born in unfortunate circumstances. Not much was done outside of programming the gameplay and writing the gist of the story, but it was a good start.

I started attending Camden County College in late 2017— in Game Design I, each student must spend the entire semester planning a hypothetical video game, learning about various elements of design, including risk analysis and timelines, while creating documents including the Planned Proposal Document and Game Design Document. I felt that what I had at the time with "Christmas in July" needed a serious reset, so I decided to center my semester's assignments around the game under a new title, "Crisis Legacy", partly in honour of Christina Grimmie, who deserves to be remembered for far more than just what happened to her. Niisen's design and name were maintained from "Christmas in July", but everything else I came up with during the semester.

In 2018, I reset one more time. A more serious-looking Niisen, more realistic yet tighter controls, and most of all— SKATING. The story has gone through a handful of revisions, and I'm still kinda figuring it out as I continue developing, but the main course is all there, korieteh. This was also when I decided to name the game "Grim Crisis". I bet yu could never guess why.

Hopefully that's the last reset.

Watch me sometimes develop the game live!

The purple critters that are shown as early as the first level, uscals, are designed after the Lucas character in the Invisible music video, with permission. All of the other assets are made by me. I hope to God that I did not accidentally leave a placeholder in the build, korieteh.
